Privacy and LTC: Common problems, effective solutions

Editor's note: This is the first article in a two-part series on HIPAA compliance for long-term care (LTC) facilities. This article describes many of the common compliance issues and difficult situations that confront LTC facilities and suggests effective methods for dealing with them. Next month, we'll demystify the compliance training challenges that LTC facilities face. The enactment of the HIPAA privacy rule forced covered entities to examine their privacy practices more closely for the first time, and it soon became evident that many settings were rife with privacy concerns.
