With temperatures dropping and snow on the way in many states, hospitals and clinics need to work on their checklist of winter safety items (see upcoming articles in HLSC). We asked Brad Keyes, CHSP, owner of Keyes Life Safety Compliance, about things that should be on that checklist from a Life Safety standpoint.
Snowed-in exits
According to section 7.1.10.1 of the 2012 Life Safety Code®, Keyes says, the means of egress is required to be continuously maintained and “free from all obstructions or impediments to full instant use in case of fire or other emergency.”
