Watch out for clean linen hoarding in your patient care units by busy staff who don’t have time to track down items as they turn over rooms.

Not only can hoarding cost your facility money, it can compromise patient safety if linens become contaminated, according to the lead article in the winter issue of Fresh, the magazine for the Association of Linen Management. The article encourages hospitals to closely manage their linen usage.

“Even if a hospital or clinic runs out of linen only once every few months, that might be enough to encourage linen hoarding, potentially leading to sizeable loss charges for the hospital and circulation issues for the linen-management company,” according to the article.
