A daylong manhunt took place earlier this week after a man abducted a female employee from a hospital in a Racine, Wisconsin suburb and then shot himself as police closed in, according to a report in The Chicago Tribune.

According to the report, the unidentified man abducted the female employee from Lakeview Specialty Hospital and Rehab in Waterford at around 3 p.m. on March 22, triggering a massive search that shut down nearby schools and a shootout in a store parking lot before the woman was released to authorities while the man once again fled police.

On March 23, police tracked the man to a nearby home and followed fresh footprints in the snow to where they found him hiding in bushes, the report said. Despite intervention efforts, the man shot himself, police said. He was taken to a hospital in Milwaukee, where his condition was unknown.
