Up close and personal on unsafe injections

OSHA Healthcare Connection, June 19, 2012

The CDC has recently posted two items on unsafe injection practices.

Tom McKnight, MD, provides a first-hand perspective on unsafe practices such as using syringes and saline bags on multiple patients. McKnight’s wife was one of 99 Nebraskans infected with hepatitis C in 2000 while receiving treatment for cancer.

In the CDC Safe healthcare blog post, Joseph Per, DrPH, MA, prevention team leader for the Division of Healthcare Quality Promotion, explains why it is important to conduct refresher training on injection safety and what tools are available.
