Call to Action issued to protect healthcare workers from bloodborne disease exposures

The International Healthcare Worker Safety Center and the American Nurses Association have been joined by 17 nursing and healthcare organizations in endorsing a Consensus Statement and Call to Action as a roadmap for future efforts on needlestick prevention.

Progress has been made since the passage of the federal Needlestick Safety and Protection Act 10 years ago, yet significant challenges remain in reducing the risk of healthcare worker exposure to bloodborne pathogens, according to a March 8 joint news release.

One of the recommendations calls for OSHA to “promote regional emphasis programs that focus on enforcement … in non-hospital settings.” See the weekly poll question below.
