CDC posts 2010 flu shot guidelines from ACIP

OSHA Healthcare Connection, August 3, 2010

The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices published flu-shot recommendations for the upcoming season with “Prevention and Control of Influenza with Vaccines,” appearing in an early release issue of Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, July 29, 2010

The recommendations advise healthcare employers to offer influenza vaccinations to all workers with particular emphasis for workers who provide direct care for persons at high risk for influenza complications. While stopping short of requiring mandatory vaccination of healthcare workers, the recommendations identify this practice as an effective way to increase vaccination rates and protect patients.
