Q&A: Drinking on the job, sort of

OSHA Healthcare Connection, February 16, 2010

Q: The policy for our healthcare facility states that drinks at desks are not allowed anywhere. My question revolves around the business offices where there is no risk of occupational exposure. Does OSHA have a ruling on that?

A: OSHA’s bloodborne pathogens standard only prohibits eating and drinking “where there is a reasonable likelihood of occupational exposure.”

Your employer, however, may set stricter requirements. Click here for more details and links on this matter.
