Obama surveys post-Katrina New Orleans

Emergency Management Alert, October 13, 2009

President Barack Obama is scheduled to visit New Orleans on Thursday to evaluate the city’s post-Katrina recovery, according to the Miami Herald.

So far, Obama has been praised for his relief efforts to New Orleans. He has released more than $1 billion in recovery for Louisiana, and the government’s economic stimulus package allocates billions more to Louisiana and other Gulf Coast states.

However, there is still a struggle in New Orleans to build a public hospital. The state is also working to prevent the federal government from cutting $700 million from the state’s Medicare reimbursement after recovery funds artificially spiked the state’s income, according to the Herald
