Tennessee storms cause outages, damage

Emergency Management Alert, August 4, 2009

Storms swept the western Tennessee region Thursday, causing power outages, reports the Jackson Sun (TN).

Bolivar (TN) General Hospital reverted to generators for electrical power, and an estimateed 11,000 residents were without power. The region was under tornado warnings most of the night as storms blew eastward from Memphis along Interstate 40 and had dropped about a half inch of rain in Madison County by 7:30 p.m., according to the Sun. The Pinson area, however, had received an estimated two inches of rain.
