A former managing pharmacist at the University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics in Madison has surrendered his license to the state for allegedly stealing oxycodone from the pharmacy for more than three years.

The theft was detected through inconsistent records inventory counts for oxycodone tablets, according to the Wisconsin Department of Regulation and Licensing.

He was placed on unpaid leave from January 27 through April 26, at which point he was fired, according to a statement the hospital gave to the Wisconsin State Journal.

The pharmacist allegedly admitted he practiced while impaired, according to the state. He is currently in treatment for an addiction to opiates.
