The placement of fire blankets in and around the operating room (OR) can be a tricky subject. The ECRI Institute, a health research firm in Plymouth Meeting, PA, strongly recommends that fire blankets are never located in an OR because their use on a patient could potentially cause more serious injuries. However, you are allowed to keep fire blankets outside of the OR in case of a fire involving a conscious person.

This week on Mac’s Safety Space, Steve MacArthur clarifies the issue with fire blankets and touches on what standards you need to pay close attention to.
