The Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) recently announced its strategic plan to improve the nation's healthcare system, including making medical education more inclusive.

The AAMC's plan calls for a more assertive effort to cultivate a more diverse physician workforce and will examine systemic barriers to diversity in academic medicine, including racism and inconsistent access to quality education. Significantly increasing the diversity of medical students will require sustained investment, collaboration, and long-term attention.

Finding the process in which medical students secure GME positions to be flawed, part of the AAMC's plan also includes leading a coalition of collaborators to implement a fair, equitable, and feasible GME selection process.

The AAMC's full plan can be found here.
