Kentucky has the highest average salary for physicians in the country at $346,000, according to Medscape’s 10th Annual Physician Compensation Report. More than 17,000 physicians from more than 30 specialties Medscape’s submitted survey responses, which were used to compile the report.
After Kentucky, the states with the highest average physician salaries were Tennessee ($338,00), Florida ($333,000), Alabama ($332,000), and Utah ($328,000). Overall, primary care physicians reported earning an average of $243,000 and specialists reported earning $346,000.
Physicians specializing in orthopedics earned the most on average with $511,000. They were followed by physicians specializing in plastic surgery ($479,000), otolaryngology ($455,000), cardiology ($438,000), and radiology ($427,000).
