A recent survey of residents found that the majority of them believe they are getting an appropriate amount of training. Of the more than 1,500 residents who submitted responses for Medscape?s annual resident salary and debt report, 79% believe their training hours are sufficient. Only 2% said that that are provided with too few training hours and 19% thought the hours are more than needed.
Nearly half of the surveyed residents reported spending more than 60 hours a week at hospitals. Much of that time was typically spent with patients. Twenty-one percent of respondents reported spending 51-60 hours a week seeing patients and 38% spent more than 60 hours.
