A survey of 1,200 physicians, residents, and medical students conducted by the American Medical Association found that nine out of 10 physicians are satisfied with their career choice despite challenges common to each stage. Sixty-one percent said they would encourage others to enter the field. Three-quarters of the survey’s respondents said their top motivator for pursuing a career in medicine was helping people and 73% knew they wanted to be physicians before they reached the age of 20.
