Physicians earn less per hour over their lifetimes than teachers, according to an analysis published by BestMedicalDegrees.com. It concluded that physicians earn $33.03 per hour over the course of their careers, compared to the $33.06 per hour earned by teachers. The hourly wages were calculated using data from the Association of American Medical Colleges, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and other sources.
According to the analysis, physicians earn an average of $5.4 million over their lifetimes, compared to teachers who earn $2.5 million. After loan debt is factored in, physicians earn $4.7 million and teachers earn about $2.4 million. However, physicians work nearly 143,000 hours over their lifetimes, while teachers work about half that. Once hourly wages are calculated, teachers are found to earn three cents more.
