New physicians entering practice often leave residency with a wealth of medical knowledge yet lack training on other critical components, says Robert Frantz, MD, president of TeamHealth Emergency Medicine West Group. To better prepare them for practice, Frantz has been lecturing emergency medicine residents on areas they may otherwise not receive instruction. Lecture topics include:
• Supervising advanced practice clinicians, such as nurse practitioners and physician assistants
• Employment contracts as well as contracts between potential employers and their hospitals
• The credentialing process with a hospital or health organization
• Malpractice and the litigation process
