Former resident sues program for gender discrimination

A physician is suing the Cedar Rapids (Iowa) Medical Education Foundation, alleging she and other female colleagues were assigned more patients, requiring her to work more than 80 hours a week. The resident claims she then lost her privileges when she complained about the long hours. She is suing for gender discrimination, wrongful termination, and defamation, and is seeking compensation for lost wages, emotional distress, and mental anguish.
