New physicians fresh out of residency may be unaware of what they need to ask for when considering a job offer. When negotiating an employment contract, it is important for new physicians to ask for what they think they deserve. In addition to salary, they should negotiate the following benefits and policies:
• Insurance
• Pension plans
• License fees and society dues
• Sick, disability, pregnancy, and family leave
• Vacation and time off
• Professional liability insurance
• Relocation expenses
• Student loans
