To help medical students manage the costs of applying for residency positions, AMA Wire recently provided a few best practices to follow. It recommended the following:
· Budget for application costs. Fees will vary for submitting applications through ERAS depending on the number of programs that are applied for.
· Don’t forget the additional fees for USMLE transcripts and to participate in the Match.
· Mitigate interview costs as best as possible by scheduling back-to-back interviews in the same areas and being creative with lodging options.
· Try not to rely on credit cards. If medical students must incur debt, they should choose the option with the lowest interest rate. Credit cards tend to have higher interest rates than medical school loans.
