Washington State University (WSU) and the University of Washington (UW) are ending their medical education partnership after WSU announced a proposal to open its own medical school in Spokane last month. UW opposed WSU proposal, questioning if a second medical school in the state was the best use of limited resources.
With the partnership ending, WSU will withdraw from UW’s physician training program and will move forward with its plan to open its own independent medical school. Both universities will now have to compete for funding from the Legislature.
