This year, several dozen medical schools, such as the University of Washington’s School of Medicine, will begin accepting applications from students who came to the United States illegally but are enrolled in the federal Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.
This academic year, at least 35 medical schools will accept students in DACA, which grants them temporary quasi-legal status, according to the Association of American Medical Colleges. Last year only one U.S. medical school accepted undocumented students.
