One university is offering an MBA program for residents who want to add business education to their training.
The University at Buffalo (N.Y.) will allow medical residents to get an MBA through an accelerated, three-semester program, The Buffalo News reports.
The program is designed to give physicians skills to manage private practices or navigate the changing economics of healthcare reform, according to a University webpage.
Unlike many programs that offer MBAs for physicians, the Buffalo program is targeted at residents rather than medical students. The University has 780 residents and fellows training at its affiliated hospitals, the News reports.
Participants begin taking business classes after completing their first year of residency and have five classes waived from their course load because they’re simultaneously working as residents, according to the University’s webpage.
