News and briefs: Medical student interest rates stay put for one year

The House and Senate voted to keep interest rates on subsidized Stafford loans at 3.4% for at least more year, according to an AAMC press release. The decision to remain at 3.4% comes after discussion of raising the ceiling to 6.8%.

Stafford loans for residents are already fixed at 6.8%. Subsidized loans for these students are no longer available as of July 1.
