News and briefs: Three U.S. Army medical residents win national distinction

The American College of Physicians (ACP) gave national awareds to a trio of U.S. Army medical residents at its recent annual conference. The winners submitted clinical vignettes and posters in the ACP national abstract competition, according to news-medical.net.

ACP award winners include:
  • Capt. Richard Wayne Hilliard Jr., DO, William Beaumont Army Medical Center, El Paso, Texas, who won for his presentation, "Atypical Presentation of Recurrent Adrenal Cell Carcinoma"
  • Capt. Johnny Dias, DO, Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Bethesda, Md., for his poster, "Comparison of Aerosolized Swallowed Fluticasone to Esomeprazole for the Treatment of Eosinophilic Esophagitis"
  • Capt. Hillary Thomas, MD, San Antonio Military Medical Center, San Antonio, Texas, for her poster, "Effects of Illicit Drug Use on Clinical Outcome of Heart Failure”
