The University of Tennessee Health Science Center and Saint Thomas Health announced plans to increase the number of residencies in hopes of retaining more physicians in-state. The expanded partnership is estimated to create about 225 new jobs in the Nashville area, according to an article in the Nashville Business Journal.

Additional training at three Saint Thomas-owned facilities begins in 2013, including Middle Tennessee Medical Center, which will train more than 100 residents every year by 2017. According to the article, Mike Schatzlein, president and CEO of Saint Thomas Health, says the increased number of residencies aims to retain more physicians in the Nashville area.
