News and briefs: CMS to redistribute residency slots

According to an online article in American Medical News, CMS will redistribute 1,357 graduate medical education slots to 88 hospitals over the next 18 months.

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act states that the closing of several teaching hospitals after March 23, 2008 results in the redirecting of distributed Medicare funding of graduate medical education, as well as the number of slots available. CMS announced the first round of hospitals receiving redistributed funding on Jan. 30.
