CareChex, a division of The Delta Group, recently completed a survey suggesting that university-based hospitals are no more likely to provide the best quality of care than nonuniversity hospitals, with the exception of cancer care.

According to the report, the majority of university-based hospitals fall below the national quality average. The group says that more research is needed to understand why many hospitals perform poorly. However, they say inexperienced trainees and long shift hours may be two factors affecting quality.

The report lists the top quality university-based hospitals in several clinical categories.
