A program handbook organizes all of the information on your teaching and assessment program in one handy place. Consider including the following information in the handbook:

  • Rotation locations
  • Names and contact information for supervising physicians for each location
  • How residents will be supervised and evaluated
  • Patient care tasks for each rotation
  • Times residents should arrive and leave the hospital
  • When and were conferences are held
  • Explanation of faculty members’ roles and responsibilities
  • How many patients and what type of procedures residents are responsible for
  • Policies, regarding  grievance and due process, resident supervision, resident selection, promotion, duty hours, vacation, and leave

Today’s question and answer are from Insider’s Guide to the ACGME Site Visit, Second Edition, by Kathryn Andolsek, MD, MPH and Shepard Cohen.
