Registered nursing will add more than 700,000 new jobs by 2020, representing the largest growth among all U.S. occupations, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The healthcare industry has grown steadily despite the recession, adding nearly half a million nurses, doctors, and other hospital personnel at a time when most other industries were cutting positions.

With baby boomers just reaching retirement age, the future promises to provide plenty of opportunities for healthcare workers; a quarter of all Americans will be 65 or older by 2050.The face-to-face aspect of healthcare jobs also protect positions from being outsourced, unlike in many other industries where overseas labor can be utilized. The stability of jobs in the healthcare industry lends itself to a lower unemployment rate and a promising growth pattern in the coming years.
