Inside the program: Creating a development plan
HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, December 6, 2010
Create a development plan that works for your hospital. Keep it simple and concise so that it gets used. Some elements that a typical development plan should include are:
- Identification of the skill or competency under focus
- Activities to be completed; dates of completion for each activity
- Benefits to the coachee, unit, organization
- Demonstration or application of skill or competency (how, when, and who will observe).
Everyone should have a development plan since everyone has areas in which they can grow, even if it is already an area of strength.
