Healthcare organizations pursing ANCC Magnet Recognition Program (MRP) ® status can help educate patients to lesson fears about asking questions—a patient who is comfortable asking nurses, physicians, and other healthcare providers they encounter the right questions will be a better educated, and hopefully more satisfied patient.

Patients should feel comfortable asking about specific situations.

“The physicians and nurses are human, too. The day of the medical professional you can’t ask questions of are over,” says Melanie Gregory, RN, BSN, CNOR, staff nurse educator Palmetto Health Richland in Columbia, SC, a former OR nurse. “If you want to know about anything, ask!”
