In the news: JONA publishes report on designation?s effect on congenital heart failure
HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, April 30, 2010
The Journal of Nurse Staffing Administration (JONA) released this month a report looking at relationship of nurse staffing, skill mix, and ANCC Magnet Recognition Program (MRP) ® designation to institutional volume and mortality for congenital heart surgery at children's hospitals.
Researchers found that nursing characteristics varied in intensive care units in children's hospitals which treat congenital heart surgery, but those characteristics were not associated with mortality. There was, however, a difference in nursing hours in the ICU and institutional volume, with nursing skill mix lower in MRP hospitals.
