Tips from BESD: Follow these tips to meet requirements for most-cited standards

Staff development specialists are essential to Joint Commission preparedness. We organize/participate in mock surveys, provide continuing education, and serve on committees and task forces that focus on Joint Commission readiness. To fulfill these responsibilities, we need to know what standards were most problematic in the past year.

The most frequent citations for Life Safety Code(r) standards were maintaining means of egress; building and fire protection components that minimize the effects of fire, smoke, and heat; and provision and maintenance of building components to protect persons from the hazards of fire and smoke. These issues should be addressed as part of safety education.
