HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, March 22, 2010
This week’s question on staff education comes from a discussion on JourneyTalk. Meryl Montgomery, RN, MSN, nursing QI coordinator with the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon, GA, provides some insight.
Q: What are the key responsibilities for an MRP program director?
A: Although this will vary by organization, there are some key points for which the MRP program director should be responsible:
- Uses in-depth assessment and analysis to determine organizational readiness for Magnet designation/re-designation
- Conducts gap analysis to determine compliance with new standards, assisting various teams with action planning
- Works closely with clinical departments and nursing leadership to close identified gaps and solutions in systems and processes
- Utilizes Evidence-based Practice, research, innovation and thorough understanding of Magnet standards/processes to develop integrated organizational interventions
- Consistently evaluates status/success of interventions and makes appropriate adjustments without jeopardizing Magnet designation
- Directs and implements processes to ensure compliance with ANCC Magnet designation criteria
- Provides a systemic approach to Magnet project management and implementation, coordinating all phases of re-designation
- Collects/compiles/coordinates/edits documentation for annual demographic report, interim and re-designation documentation
- Monitors/provides guidance and leadership for designated committees and councils
- Coordinates/collects/compiles and ensures appropriate editing of documentation for Organizational Overview and Sources of Evidence
- Provides an environment of motivation and commitment to Magnet designation through celebration, continuous communication, and education of the continuum and Magnet requirements
