Inside the program: Three stages of culture change
HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, December 1, 2009
The Lewin-Schein model of organizational change contains three stages. This model sums up a three-step process in driving cultural change that simplifies the complexity of accomplishing such tasks:
- Stage I is called unfreezing: This is where you create motivation and readiness to change
- Stage II is called changing: This is where you conduct the cognitive restructuring
- Stage III is called refreezing: This is where you integrate the change fully into the culture to ensure the change is maintained
