News brief: Technology reduces nurse overtime and agency use
HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, August 25, 2009
Johnson City (TN) Medical Center has reduced the need for its nurses to work overtime and limited its reliance on agency nurses with a new nurse scheduling system from Avantas.
The software has already helped the organization save $550,000 in its first year of implementation.
Another advantage of the new software is that it helps the organization forecast future patient levels, allowing nurses to set schedules weeks in advance.
Johnson City Medical Center received ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® designation in 2005.
