News brief: Designated hospitals land on exclusive list
HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, May 12, 2009
Consumers’ Checkbook, a non-profit consumer research group, recently announced its list of the top 125 hospitals for 2009. Out of the hospitals nominated, 43 are ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® designated.
The group selected the top 125 hospitals based on the percent of:
- Physicians who rated their hospital as good or excellent
- Patients who said they would recommend the hospital
- Cases where the proper test and procedures were done
- Rate of complications in major cases
- Death rate for high risk cases
This data was collected through surveys sent to patients and physicians at 4,500 acute care hospitals located in 53 of the largest metropolitan areas in the United States. Researchers from Consumers’ Checkbook calculated an overall score for each hospital. The highest scoring hospitals in each community made the top 125 list.
