Inside the news: A wall of support provides inspiration at Illinois hospital
HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, March 17, 2009
The hallway leading into the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at Advocate Lutheran General Children’s Hospital in Park Ridge, IL, is unlike any other at the facility. Along with healthcare providers and family members, it’s also filled with hope and inspiration.
The “wall of hope,” a section of the unique hallway at Advocate Lutheran General—an ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® recipient in 2005—is filled with photos and inspirational essays from parents who had children in the NICU and want to share their experience. Photos include struggling infants or kids walking to school.
According to Karen Lebo, RN, who came up with the inspirational wall after seeing it in another hospital, families say the wall helps them see that their child is going to be okay.
