Inside best practice: Get fired up for redesignation with pep rallies
HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, February 17, 2009
By Ron Bass, MAEd, BSN, RN-BC, clinical educator at Sarasota (FL) Memorial Healthcare System.
Preparing for redesignation is a lot of work and a lot of fun. We had “pep rallies” where information was given to staff in a positive, upbeat, interactive format. The pep rallies were the most engaging when we played “Magnet [Recognition Program®] jeopardy,” where tickets were drawn and nurses were given a chance to answer questions. We even had a final question with a $50 gas card as the grand prize.
Overall, we had eight rallies where giveaways were offered. During the rallies, we presented information we felt was most important for staff to know, such as the peer review process, the professional practice model, standards of care, scope of practice, nursing ethics, and care planning.
These sessions were informative and fun, and the feedback was very favorable. For others who could not attend, we offered online modules which covered these topics.
