The inactivation issue: Triple-check your assessments to ensure accuracy

Among other issues surrounding SNF PPS payment and assessment completion policies, a recent clarification from CMS specifically addresses the inactivation of ­assessments, and has turned into a hot topic among MDS coordinators. If the assessment reference date (ARD) or type of assessment is entered incorrectly, and the ­provider doesn’t correct it within the encoding period, they must complete and submit a new MDS 3.0 record.
