In mid-November 2011, CMS announced a 90-day discretionary period for facilities that are not compliant with the Version 5010 electronic transaction standards. This does not mean, however, that an extended compliance deadline was provided. The deadline remained January 1, 2012, but no enforcement action will be taken as a result of any complaint submissions until March 31, 2012.
