The resident interview process: What was all the fuss about?

Although navigating the new resident interview process of the MDS 3.0 may not be smooth sailing, many facilities have found it much easier than expected.
“Initially, staff thought that the interviews were going to be really cumbersome. But once they started doing them, they found that the interviews are not so bad and really like them,” says Sharon Bixler, ACBSW, CNHA, FACHCA, director of operations at WILMAC Corporation in York, PA. “They definitely took some getting used to, but I think the staff are comfortable with the interview process now.” As the providers included in this article adapted to the interview process, they faced difficult situations and encountered surprising outcomes and reactions. But after just a few months of working the kinks out, they are standing strong, successfully conducting the interviews, and possessing a better understanding of the residents they serve. Other providers can learn a lot from their experiences and solutions.
