“In many ways, this is a shift in the resident-provider relationship. Until now, most residents have felt that they should not question the doctor or other healthcare professional regarding their care,” says Michelle Pandolfi, MSW, LNHA, education advisor at the Connecticut Association of Not-for-Profit Providers for the Aging in Berlin, CT. “Since most residents don’t have a medical degree, they may have to just trust the doctor’s judgment sometimes, but residents and family members should feel free to ask questions.”
