Medicare Part A will cover 100 days of a SNF stay, as long as the resident has a three-day qualifying hospital stay, transfers to the SNF within 30 days of discharge, as a practical matter needs SNF care, and requires and receives Medicare skilled care in a nursing facility setting. This 100-day span of Part A coverage is known as a benefit period.
