CMS announced July 31 that Medicare payments to nursing homes would increase 3.4% in 2009, the result of an annual market basket calculation of the cost of goods and services included in a skilled nursing facility (SNF) stay, according to a CMS press release.
The agency also postponed the recalibration of the resource utilization group (RUG) payment categories planned for fiscal year (FY) 2009 due to widespread concerns that the recalibration could harm the quality of SNF care, clinical staff members, and beneficiaries, according to the release.
