HCPro's OR Fire video named a finalist at the 2005 New York Festivals International Film and Video Awards

MARBLEHEAD MA-The New York Festivals International Film and Video Awards named HCPro's OR Surgical Fire Training video a finalist among 1,000 entries in this year's competition. The contest recognizes "The World's Best Work" in informational, educational and industrial film productions and corporate video.

The competition's lengthy process of peer review judging took place between October and December 2004. As in previous years, the process involved several hundred producers, directors, writers and other media professionals in the New York area.

About the video

HCPro, Inc. created OR Surgical Fire Training: How to Prevent and Respond to Surgical Fires to help organizations protect their patients and avoid citations from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. An average of two surgical fires occur per week nationally.

OR Surgical Fire Training offers cutting-edge information and best practices to prevent surgical fires. Real fire demonstrations with actual surgeons show staff how to suppress different types of fires, conduct exercises to ensure continuous OR fire readiness and incorporate OR fire safety methods into existing OR processes.

The video is broken down into four key areas that include prevention, suppression, evacuation and training exercises, and communication. It also includes 50 tear-off sheets of tips designed to reinforce the training presented in the video.

Leading experts involved with the creation of this 20-minute video include Dan Raemer, Ph D., Associate Professor of Anesthesia at Harvard Medical School, Robert Simon, Ed.D., CPE, Education Director at the Center for Medical Simulation, and leading healthcare fire prevention expert Scott Aronson of Russell Phillips and Associates, LLC.
