New Physician Advisor Seminar Focuses on CDI Integration

Press Releases, February 8, 2011

ACDIS, the Association of Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialists, the leading national association for CDI specialists, announces the introduction of a one-day seminar to provide in-depth training on the essential functions of physician advisors (PAs) and their successful integration with the CDI department.

The Physician Advisor's Role in CDI: A Collaborative Approach for Success takes place April 6 at the Hilton Walt Disney Resort in Orlando, FL. It will be followed by the fourth annual ACDIS conference on April 7 and 8.

"CDI is a growing field in the healthcare industry," says Brian Murphy, ACDIS director. "The collaboration between CDI staff and physicians offers hospitals a tremendous opportunity to improve the documentation that is crucial to accurate and complete patient records. PAs serve as the go-between linking CDI specialists and physician staff. That in turn ensures that the organization receives appropriate reimbursement for every patient service. It’s our hope that both PAs and CDI managers planning to add this critical position to their CDI program will benefit from this event."

The one-day seminar will give physician advisors the thorough grounding they need to meet the goals and objectives of a strong CDI program. It will give both new and experienced PAs the tools and strategies to promote physician engagement and prepare clinicians for increased documentation demands at this crucial time.

Attendees will receive a thorough grounding in the most problematic terms in ICD-9 and ICD-10 and best practices for resolving coding v. clinical disagreement. They will also learn ways to build credibility with medical staff and peers and establish contractual and payment best practices.
