Pay-per-view: HOP Panel discusses site parity, drug administration at latest meeting

The policies that CMS publishes each year in the OPPS proposed rule don't always come as a surprise. Sometimes, CMS will announce its future intent in a previous rule in order to notify providers about data it is looking at or requesting comments on.
CMS also hosts several meetings each year of the Hospital Outpatient Payment (HOP) Panel, a group of provider representatives from hospitals around the country.
The panel hears public testimony from stakeholders, including provider groups, industry organizations such as drug and device manufacturers, associations and trade groups, and consultants, on a variety of issues and provider concerns related to the OPPS payment system.
While not every meeting results in recommendations passed along to CMS, the summer 2014 meeting only had one vote that ended in a tie, the recent March meeting I attended included a number of recommendations that may influence future rulemaking.
